Malcolm G. Knapp explores the engineering industry on which modern Grantham was built. Through rare, archives images he shows the development of Richard Hornsby's factory, which made Grantham an important centre for heavy and precision engineering. Alongside this he explores how trade brought Grantham more links with the outside world, starting from the canal and the Great North Road to the development of the Great Northern Railway. He also pays tribute to the much-loved leader of education in Grantham, Nellie Frances Cant, who taught thousands of Grantham schoolchildren at Welby Street and Earlesfield County Primary.
