Polypeptide hormones play a central role in the regulation of biological processes from the control of vital functions to the programming of birth, development, reproduction and ageing. This text covers topics relating to the biosynthesis, processing and secretion of polypeptides, and the major signalling systems which mediate hormone action, including cyclic nucleotides, inositol phosphates, diacylglycerol, calcuim and tyrosyl kinases.
