Slaughtered Like Animals
Synopsis
SLAUGHTERED LIKE ANIMALS. The "Kilmichael ambush", was the killing of 17 British Police there in November 1920 and it was the largest single loss the government suffered in this period. There is clear evidence that half the police who died were prisoners when they were killed. Folk memory in rural Ireland is that they were "slaughtered like animals". Kilmicheal is one of a "set" of incidents mentioned in every account of the Irish "Troubles" of 1919-22. This book examines these in detail for the first time by referring to political, physical, forensic and social factors that are never considered.
