Team Development Programme: A Training Manual

This team development programme has been widely used and tested so that it should help any group of people who aim to work together as a team. It is based on the premise that any work role is potentially stressful - and that the people you work with can be your greatest source of stress or your greatest source of support. The quality of relationships that you develop - and the opportunities for collaborative working - can make a huge difference to the extent to which a job is experienced as meaningful and fulfilling. By using this programme you can take your team members through a developmental process which allows you all to understand the factors that help and hinder. It recognises that high levels of conflict between team members, and no constructive ways of resolving difficult situations, are major factors in creating a demoralized staff group. To develop instead a team where "the whole is greater than the sum of its parts", it is also important that team members develop consistent work pracises based on a shared value base. They also need to respond positively to challenging situations, and establish an ethos that allows for open and honest communication.
