Tracing Arachne's Web: Myths and Feminist Fiction

Using the metaphor of Demeter and Persephone as a framework, the author examines the use of myth and the occult in US women novelists in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. She demonstrates how their writing uses this interest to investigate racisism, sexism, and classicism.
