Wagner

Richard Wagner (1813-1883) was perhaps the most important and controversial of composers of ninteenth-century music. To understand Wagner, one must look not only at his musical genius, as seen in his many operas, but also at the impact and influence of his many essays on musical theory. His music also effected the moral and ideological basis of German nationalism, influencing European history as no other musician.
