An Evening with Martin Parr

Legendary chronicler of the eccentricities and odd beauties of modern life, Martin Parr comes to Foyles to discuss his new Phaidon collection of fashion photography, Fashion Faux Parr.

With essays by influential fashion industry personalities Patrick Grant and Tabitha Simmons, Fashion Faux Parr showcases Parr’s fashion photography for the first time in one book. More than 250 colour images, many previously unpublished, explore a wide variety of fashion work, from editorial collaborations with major magazines and houses, including Vogue, Balenciaga, and Gucci, to can-did photographs from behind the scenes at major fashion events and portraits of industry icons.

Martin Parr is one of the best-loved photographers working today. His previous collections include The Non-Conformists and The Last Resort. A member of the international photo agency Magnum, Parr is also a world authority on the photobook.

Parr will be in conversation about his work and career with Alistair O’Neill, writer, curator and professor of Fashion History and Theory at Central Saint Martins (University of the Arts London). Recent exhibitions include Exploding Fashion: 2D-3D-3D Animation (MoMu, Antwerp, 2022) and A Hard Man is Good to Find! (The Photographers’ Gallery, London, 2023). O’Neill is a consultant for a number of museums and galleries, recent projects include Fashioning Masculinities (Victoria and Albert Museum, London, 2022) and Juergen Teller: i need to live (Grand Palais, Paris, 2023). He sits on the editorial board of Fashion Theory and writes regularly for Aperture magazine.

The conversation will be followed by an audience Q&A and book signing. Doors open from 6:45pm.
