How Women Listen: Alice Vincent in Conversation with Amy Key
Twice Wainwright Prize-longlisted author of 'Why Women Grow' speaks to Amy Key about 'Hark: How Women Listen', an exploration of the relationship between sound and womanhood.
Alice Vincent had become overwhelmed by the sensory overload punctuating every moment lived in modern society. And then, a baby’s heartbeat arrived. What followed was a personal quest to rediscover sound as something alive, vital and restorative. Journeying beyond music into new corners of listening, Vincent asks if sound – seeking it, trying to hold on to it, making space for it in her life – can reconnect her to parts of herself she has lost.
Alice Vincent is the author of four books, including Why Women Grow and Rootbound: Rewilding a Life, both longlisted for the Wainwright Prize and named as ‘Books of the Year’ by the Financial Times, Independent, Stylist and others. She is a columnist for the Guardian and New Statesman and writes for titles including Vogue, Financial Times and the Sunday Times.
Amy Key is a poet and writer based in London. She is the author of two collections of poetry, Luxe and Isn't Forever, which was a Poetry Book Society Wild Card Choice and a Book of the Year in the Guardian, New Statesman and The Times. Her poems have been widely published and anthologised, and her essays have appeared in At the Pond, Granta, the Poetry Review and elsewhere. Her debut work of non-fiction, Arrangements in Blue, was published in 2023.
