Kafka’s Diaries: Ross Benjamin in Conversation with Catherine Taylor
Acclaimed translator Ross Benjamin discusses the engrossing reflections, observations and dreams that make up the diaries of one of the twentieth century’s most influential writers, available in their entirety for the first time in English in Benjamin’s new translation.
Described as ‘one of the finest translating achievements in recent history’ by the Literary Review, Ross Benjamin’s translation of Franz Kafka’s diaries vividly brings to life the interior world of a literary master, and a work of genius in its own right.
Ross Benjamin's translations include Friedrich Hölderlin’s Hyperion, Joseph Roth’s Job, and Daniel Kehlmann’s You Should Have Left and Tyll. He was awarded the Helen and Kurt Wolff Translator’s Prize for his rendering of Michael Maar’s Speak, Nabokov, and he received a Guggenheim Fellowship for his work on Franz Kafka’s diaries.
Benjamin will be in conversation with Catherine Taylor. Catherine Taylor is the former deputy director of English PEN, where in 2015 she commissioned and edited the book Life From Elsewhere: Journeys in World Literature. She is a co-founder of the literary quarterly Brixton Review of Books. Catherine's memoir The Stirrings was released last year. The event will be followed by a book signing.
