I absolutely loved this book! Though it's not my first Anthony Horowitz book, it was the first Hawthorne Investigates, and I was worried it was a mistake to start with the 3rd book in the series. It wasn't. The previous books are not spoiled, and I didn't feel behind in the story or with the characters. Horowitz is simply a brilliant writer who knows crime fiction inside and out and grabs you from the first page. I have now bought the first two Hawthorne Investigates books, and I can't wait to read them!

It’s quite funny to read Anthony Horowitz’s disparaging account of himself as reluctant biographer to Hawthorne’s cases. Sticking to a world he obviously knows well, the drama this time for the duo takes place at a literary festival and in true Christie style everyone is a suspect. My only criticism of Horowitz’s easy to read style is that I get through the books too quickly.

This is the third book in the, former Police Detective Daniel Hawthorne series. As with the previous two books, we see our author Anthony Horowitz play the character of an author in his own novel. Hawthorne and Horowitz are invited to a literary festival on the small island of Alderney to discuss their new book. As the reader would expect, while on the island there is a murder and soon the island is in lockdown. Hawthorne immediately starts to investigate the murder of the very wealthy sponsor of the literary festival and very soon he discovers that among the islanders and the other authors attending the festival, he is not short of suspects. Although this book can easily be read as a stand alone, I would advise reading the previous two books first to fully appreciate the dynamics between the two main characters. Again this is a book I really enjoyed and would recommend.

Never read a book before where the author is the lead character in the book. A novel that keeps you guessing who knows what and who killed who. Interesting characters and very enjoyable read but you must be patient if you want to know who did it.

A really good whodunnit with a different theme - that of the book author being onsite as it were and seeing the next book develop in real time. Definitely a Cluedo game full of characters/suspects - most with motives and reasons which come apparent as the book progresses. Not a book where they are all congregated in a room and Hawthorne (a modern and working man's Poirot) explains and reveals the culprit. The police are of no use in the case and they do identify someone so that the case can be closed. But no, Hawthorne has this worked out and what really happened is revealed. An excellent book and thoroughly recommended
