“A great beginning-of year read”
(Hardback)
by Eloise
This is a lovely story about coming of age, and decisions that young people face. Although written over 100 years ago, the core of this story remains relatable to a 21st century audience. For anybody who struggles to get into classics, I think an illustrated classic such as this one is a great place to start. Alternatively, this would make a fantastic gift for anybody who already loves the story, as the illustrations are uniquely gorgeous. This was the first E. M Forster I’ve read, but I’m definitely going to be picking up more after this!
“A beautiful classic full of strong characters”
(Hardback)
by Lucy at Scarborough
Luke Edwards Hall’s illustrations enrich the timeless coming of age novel. This is a lovely edition for any avid reader’s collection. Forster’s typical witty barbs and sly humour will delight readers, as he sets up each character’s introduction to the story and the absurd laws that govern polite society. The tragic romantic, George, and his earnest plain speaking father are ejected from gentile society. Young Miss Honeychurch is kept in the anxious company of her older cousin, Charlotte. When the four collide on a holiday to Florence one innocent kiss sets in motion a series of unfolding events. Miss Honeychurch is precocious and poised to re-examine her sheltered views of the world and it’s inhabitants – and escape her respectable and unremarkable betrothed, Cecil. The novel paints a quaint scene of English countryside and lazy days of summer. Thank you to the publisher for sending a proof copy.
