Reviews: A Widow's Vow (1)
“An exciting storyline”
(Paperback)
It's 1851 in the City of Bristol in Britain and Louisa Hill is sharing a house with her husband and also her good friend Nancy. However all is about to change dramatically in the next few days and her whole world turned upside down. Her husband committed suicide, leaving her a house in Bath, the house where they had been living was lost to a gambling debt. On arrival at the house in Bath Louisa and her best friend find another woman living in the house, a woman who was obviously her husband's kept woman and now she is wondering what she should do with her, she doesn't want her living in the house with her but now the dilemma stands and one that she has to solve. She starts a business, the only business she knows, and before long they have another woman (Octavia) staying there, so with Louisa now being the boss, as well as a madam, Nancy and Octavia work for her in the only way they know. All is well until Nancy is badly beaten by a client, now Louisa has another dilemma, whether to carry on or close down.
Set in a different world to now, a time of illegal fighting, seedy brothels and a time when the exhibition at Crystal Palace in London's Hyde Park had just opened. But it's an exciting storyline and I couldn't put it down, I couldn't wait to find out what happened to Louisa, Nancy and Octavia.
A five-star read from me.
