“I struggled to put this down!”
(Paperback)
by Rachel Hasler
Wow! Against The Tide follows DC Vinny Robson and DS Sue Wilmott who are investigating a spate of robberies. When an elderly couple are found to have been violently attacked and murdered in their home, the investigation takes a new turn. This book was soooo good! I was gripped from the off. I enjoyed seeing DS Wilmott and DC Robson again (have been characters in G D Wrights previous crime books After The Storm and Into The Fire)I loved how the story took on new twists as it unfolded and I loved the diary entries. I was convinced I had figured out what was going on and then bam! That Epilogue chapter!!!This author is a brilliant storyteller, and his knowledge of police procedures shows. This is one I’d highly recommend picking up!Huge thanks to Avon books, Netgalley for the advanced copy. Opinions expressed here are my own.

“A great rollercoaster of a novel.”
(Paperback)
by Mary Urquhart
A great rollercoaster of a novel, beautifully written even thought death is involved! Definitely will read more of the authors novels. Once into the story, which doesn’t take long you find yourself unable to put the book down- wondering what the outcome will be.
“Excellent”
(Paperback)
by K MacLean
I literally could not put this down. Deborah Robson’s was drugged and raped, the attacker went on to attack 3 others, he was never caught. Debs met one of the other victims, Margie, she unlike Debs who was married to Mick, was on her own. A friendship formed, their sons Vinny and Jack growing up together. Vinny now a detective visits his mother every day, she has dementia, shocked one day as she. Says his father raised him even though he was not his, just the dementia though. A story with threads pulled through family and murder investigations that has twists and turns and a final twist or two at the end. Excellent! My thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for the arc.

“Emotional rollercoaster with jaw-dropping twists”
(Paperback)
by Angela Edwards Verified Purchase
AD/PR/GIFTED With recent burglaries of homes in Beachbrook escalating, it's not long before an elderly couple are attacked and killed. But is this down to a robbery gone wrong? To DS Sue Willmott and her team, it seems more personal. DC Vinny Robson is the Family Liaison Officer assigned to help the victims' daughter, Natalie. But as the team struggles to find a motive for the attack they are also finding it difficult to discover anything from her parents' past. Meanwhile Vinny is trying to spend as much time as he can with his mum, Mary, at her care home. Her dementia is leaving her more and more confused and often with her mistaking Vinny for his late father, Mick. When Mary mentions something to Vinny thinking he's Mick, he's left reeling.  With the investigation into the murders still ongoing, alongside we have excerpts from a diary journal written in the past. But who did the diary belong to? As the dual storylines continue, the secrets of the past unfold resulting in unforeseen consequences and further turmoil for Vinny. But as he starts to investigate his past, is he really prepared for what he is about to uncover? Oh my goodness! What a shocking and highly emotional story this was. I've never cried so much over a police procedural thriller book before and this was one emotional rollercoaster for me.  I buddy read this book with several others and we were all racing through the pages and it gave us plenty of great discussions. I really enjoyed both of G D Wright's previous books but we connect in a more personal way with Vinny in this story. My nan went through dementia, and Mary's journey was so beautifully written that she really resonated with me. Thank you so much Avon Books for sending me a proof copy. I did also purchase a copy as well.

“Emotional police procedural”
(Paperback)
by Kay RhysEvans
Against the Tide is another absolute knockout from the author - Our third trip to Beachbrook starts with a series of violent burglaries and quickly turns darker when an elderly couple are murdered.I loved being back in DS Wilmot’s world, but especially loved getting more of DC Vinny Robson this time. Vinny’s relationship with his mum added so much emotion to the story, and alongside Natalie trying to cope after tragedy and Sue attempting to move forward after loss…yeah, this one is basically a big ball of feelings. Gaz really knows how to write crime thrillers that are tense, gripping, and pacy while emotionally destroying you at the same time. There is a brilliant cast of characters with loads of depth. They feel very real (I can definitely appreciate Sue’s constant mum guilt!)The multiple POVs worked brilliantly, and I loved the diary entries woven through the story. There were twists right up until the epilogue and every time I thought I’d figured things out, bam, he pulled the rug out from under me again. The subject matter is pretty tough at times, and parts of it hit a bit close to home for me personally, but it’s handled with a lot of care and sensitivity throughout.Brilliantly done. Loved it, and really hope we get more Beachbrook books. Take a bow, Mr Wright.
