Reviews: Agent Zigzag (16)
“Truly amazing”
(Paperback)
one of the most well written and interesting books i have read for some time. A truly brilliant account of a most unlikely war hero.
“Astonishing Secrets Revealed”
(Paperback)
This is the story of Eddie Chapman, described in the subtitle as Lover Traitor Hero Spy. He is all these things and more; a successful and charismatic criminal, an irrepressibly optimistic and opportunist man. Cad, bounder and rotter all describe him admirably. But this is also a fascinating story of deception and intrigue during the Second World War. We see how the intelligence services on both sides worked and are introduced to a host of fascinating supporting characters, from the German officer who thought that English Morris dancing was a foundation of world culture to the British peer who practised blowing up safes with Chapman.
“Best Spy story ever”
(Paperback)
An enthralling story ,excitement on every page . ,very well written . Couldn't put the book down, read it in two days
“Agent Zigzag”
(Paperback)
I love stories of the sacrifice and bravery of the Second World War and this is one of the most interesting I’ve read in a long while. It’s right up there with Between Silk & Cyanide! The Nazi double-triple agent who ended up helping the British army stomp all over Hitler.
“A page turning, real life thriller!”
(Paperback)
Agent Zigzag has it all, thrilling heists, explosives, perilous parachute jumps, double agents, prison camps and a spy on every corner, how this is all about one man, a real person, is confounding.Eddie Chapman’s life reads like fiction, and Macintyre tells it like a page turning thriller as Chapman goes from safe cracking, to prison, to working with the Nazis to offering up all of his hard earned secrets to MI5. An astounding, unmissable account of spy-craft from Second World War. I was gripped from start to finish and somehow, regardless of his criminality and his status as a hapless lothario, the portrayal of Chapman as a charismatic rogue dedicated to his country made him incredibly likeable. An engaging, eye opening piece of history, Macintyre transforms Eddie Chapman’s life into an adventure which will never be forgotten. Loved it.
