I absolutely *loved* this picture book! It’s so much fun to read aloud - the rhythm and rhyme are wonderful, the illustrations are great and the story itself is very, very funny, so this was the perfect book to read with my children !

I loved this rhyming tale about Billy McGill who has always lived alone at the top of hill until one day he discovers a mouse in his house. This story is full of humour and I felt joyous reading it! The character interactions are great and I loved the unique theme of friendship on your own terms.

Billy McGill is not keen on company. He lives alone on top of a hill, until one day when a mouse appears in his house. He isn't happy and the book gets increasingly bonkers as Billy tries every strategy he can think of to evict the mouse. This is a joyous, rhyming romp of a story, using a well known trope and giving it fresh life with extraordinary amounts of silliness. The illustrations are wonderfully chaotic and this is an absolute pleasure to read and share.

We loved this! It has everything you want from a picture book – a loveable main character you can’t fail to sympathise with; rhythm, rhyme and repetition in text that is a joy to read aloud and join in with; creatures galore and a tiny problem that soon becomes gigantic, all of which comes together to create a hugely hilarious and raucous affair kids (and their grown ups) will love. Busy, expressive, calamitous and very, very funny – I cannot wait to see more from Barry Falls, I think I’ve found a new favourite picture book creator!

This is a funny read that is sure to put a smile on your face. He lives alone, he is happy until he finds a mouse... things are about to get out of control! Great illustrations, very happy to recommend.
