“Very readable - though specialist”
(Hardback)
by David Poyser
I enjoyed it and read it quickly. This is about Ed's life (mostly after politics) and the food he ate and cooked when he was young, as a busy MP married to a busy MP, and as a Dad - there's recipes at the end of every chapter. I am his target audience. I cook a lot, my wife is successful, I am in the Labour Party, I have worked in television production and our child has just flown the nest off to Uni. In short, I am very much Ed's target audience and v interested in how Ed went from being the nerdiest PM's nerd (when he worked for Gordon Brown as an economist) to being a TV chef, traveller, Daddy/family man and dancer etc. Well done Ed for making the move. I think many others outside the target audience would be v bored by this 'so what'-ish book, but I hope they wouldn't buy it!. The recipes are competent, for family cooking, but not special in any way and I don't think I would turn to this book as a recipe book Anyway, well done Ed for rebuilding yourself. I hope Yvette's career continues to do well - it's a bit shameful that if you exclude Margaret Becket's brief 'reign' the party of feminism has had no women Leaders. It's well documented that many ex-politicians crumble - but Ed instead has capitalised on it and become the king of family crumble and custard.

I found this book so interesting and I love the way Ed frames his story around meals. I enjoyed it so much I lent it to friends and family and in the end bought myself another copy! I have enjoyed trying out quite a few of his recipes and they really do all work. I was especially amazed at how successful the cheese soufflé recipe was even with my grandchildren. I enjoyed the amusing insights into the politics & personalities he interacted with. A sad loss to politics and government but a great addition to entertainment and interesting documentaries. I have recommended this book to so many people.

What a lovely feel good book. Makes you want to sit at Ed's dinner table to enjoy a meal. This book is comfort food galore. Very enjoyable read. I will definitely be trying some of the recipes contained within it's pages. After the last 18 months it was a joy.
