Reviews: Beekeeping (1)
“A bit more than a beginners' book”
(Paperback)
As a second year beekeeper I was looking for some further reading that did not go all through the very basics yet again (hive components, finding an apiary site, tools & equipment etc). This book didn't quite fit that bill because it does cover the starting up stuff, however it does also contain a lot of information about more advanced techniques too & I found a lot of useful information that I had not come across elsewhere e.g. the use of a Taranov board for swarm control. There are no photographs in the book but some excellent line drawings. Overall I thought that this new edition is beautifully produced. I was a bit alarmed at the small brown print at first but found it comfortable to read (should wear reading glasses but don't) and many of the pages are 'watermarked' with bee related images. This edition has also been brought completely up to date in terms of OSR, varroa etc. Although it wasn't exactly what I was looking for I'm glad that I have added it to my bookshelf, I can see myself referring to it often.
