I can't recall ever being so disappointed and annoyed by a book purchase as 'Being Ecological' by USA Rice University professor, Timothy Morton. Don't waste your money. Whoever decided on this book title should take responsibility. Writing this as one of the first United Kingdom geographers to have undertaken an ecological research degree - back in the 1960s. I then applied ecological thinking to town planning policy making. For good measure (since Timothy Morton is an English professor) I added a senior masters in environmental creative writing. Pelican Books, of which this is one, "relaunched in May 2014,[3] again aim[s] to provide inexpensive, accessible non-fiction for a non-specialist readership" [Wikipedia]. I have never felt so distanced from a book as by this one. I pity the 'non-specialised' reader trying to relate to this book. It is worse than useless, being a waste of precious time, and downright misleading, focussing as it does on arguments and word play around the subject, and yet not around the subject. Read some of it before you buy, and don't make the bad mistake I did in at Waterstones UEA, Norwich, yesterday!
