“Bite to Byte”
(Paperback)
Never heard of Frendonia? Neither had I, but typically Persephone Lewin introduces Frendonia as the mythical personification of her subject, forensic odontology. Frendonia's lurking presence throughout her fascinating book, Bite to Byte, somehow succeeds in turning the frighteningly abstruse sounding subject of forensic odontology into a completely absorbing read.Bite to Byte is an extraordinary and compelling story of how against daunting odds, David Lewin, the author's husband, developed forensic techniques based originally on dentistry that stood up in court against some of the best barristers in the land and succeeded in nailing some of our most violent criminals. Throughout all this he was assisted by Persephone, thus making a true husband and wife team. This book is a marvellous, funny and rivettingly interesting tale written in a refreshingly direct and open style. Persephone Lewin takes us through the twists and turns of some ten cases showing the evolution of their methods from hand drawn overlays to today's sophisticated computer driven information. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it and would recommend it to anyone, whether interested in forensics or not.
