WOW! I loved this book! This book is the second to feature CSI Grace McColl and Detective Nick Weston. From the first chapter you know that you are in for a terrific read. It is set in a small town in the Lakelands during the Applebey Horse Fair which is where annually, travellers / gypsies gather from all over Europe. While this causes some people in the village to close doors to the arrivals, many are welcoming. But with so many extra people descended on the village and only a small number of local police to keep the peace, it is also the perfect time for revenge, or murder. Hell's bells, she's done it again! It certainly can't be bad when pressure from your readers persuades a writer to to pen a sequel, but this is exactly what Zoe Sharp has done with the excellent Bones in the River, follow-up to 2018's Dancing on the Grave. Unlike Sharp's more mobile Charlie Fox series, which moves locations as befits each story, this new series is set in the Lake District. This second installment opens in coolly understated but dramatic fashion (I urge you to try the author's 3-chapter test, which will surely leave you open mouthed and eager to keep reading... And when you do, you'll discover more about CSI Grace McColl ands local detective Nick Weston.) Focused on more close-knit communities including, in this case, the travelling community who come to the area for the annual Appleby Horse Fair, there is, nevertheless, drama, tension and high stakes at play here, as crimes old and new each play for center stage.
