Reviews: Bones (2)
“Everything you needed to know”
(Hardback)
For anyone who loves science or is in the medical field then they will love this book. Having worked in hospitals for many years it was great to see names I’ve heard off in this book. It also had reference to bone scanning which was one of my roles. (Although I would have liked a bit more on that subject)
Really informative and actually a very interesting read.
Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for the arc in return for an honest review
“Some good aspects, but with a very US focus”
(Hardback)
The author writes occasionally with a vernacular and it is local to the US. The book hasn't been adapted for cultures outside of that sphere. For instance there are several pages on how to become an orthopaedic surgeon in the US and he uses US analogies which may or may not mean much to a non US audience. On the positive side I learnt a lot about the way bones grow and repair themselves. The author does mention the piezoelelectric effect but states that cycling will have no beneficial effect. I'm not sure that's correct. Cycling on the flat has no positive effect, but cycling up steep hills or across bumpy or stony ground probably does. However the author writes off cycling in a sentence which is unfortunately symptomatic of the book's style.
