Robin Youngs Brethren is a stunning novel of the Crusade,with a wide array of characters and a nicely complex plot, a very good read!

This is a well researched introduction to the crusades. It achieves it's aim of looking at the period from both sides. A must for lovers of historical fiction & those looking for an introduction to this complex period. My only regret is that it's taken me so long to start the series. It will not be long before I read the rest

Brethren is a must-read for any crusade-era interest to be fulfilled. Richly-described, deeply-woven characters and a authentic crusade world is a creation well done byYoung. However some chapters are superfluous, especially in the Will Campbell sections and the plot moves rather slowly compared to the eventful Amir Baybars. However the wonderfully visualised battle scenes are a treat to behold and easily compensate the slog of before.Definitely a triology to stay with
