Reviews: Broken (1)
“brilliant thriller”
(Paperback)
Broken is the second book in the DI Kate Burrows series by Martina Cole and was originally published in 2000.
Young children are going missing across Grantley and some of the victims turn up in places which cannot be explained. The prime suspect in each case is the mother, and Kate Burrows is leading the team trying to get to the bottom of what is happening.
As Burrows and the investigation starts to dig further, she uncovers an active paedophile ring in Grantley. This includes the mothers of some of the victims who are quite willing to sell their children for a hit of drugs or cash. Burrows is disgusted at this and those making excuses for them which is making things worse.
While being pushed to the limit and Burrows could really do with the support of her lover Patrick Kelly. Unfortunately for Kelly he was under attack and his businesses were under attack from Russian organisations. When he gets shot, he realises he will have to step up to the plate as his safety and reputation depends on it.
A breathtaking and stunning story which makes for a brilliant thriller.
