Reviews: Caio (2)
“A powerful and emotionally engaging novel”
(Paperback)
by Alis Page
CAIO by L. S. Delorme was a paranormal romance and the first book in The Limerant Series. The book started exactly as it meant to go on, hard-hitting and compelling. It was a punchy novel filled with vivid descriptions that brought the story to life. One sentence I particularly liked was: “Angela may have looked like a mouse, but she was actually more like a trapdoor spider. She was an ambush predator.” Lines like this perfectly captured the sharp, observant tone of the writing. The chapters were short, and the story unfolded over a brief period, from May 2nd to July 7th, with dates at the top of each chapter. This structure worked really well, gradually building tension and adding to the sense of rising drama. Sarah, the main protagonist, was a complex character, and Delorme portrayed her nuances with genuine compassion and care. I found myself drawn into her emotional journey and felt invested in her struggles and growth. This book did contain trigger warnings, and I would strongly recommend readers take note of them. That said, the difficult subjects were handled with great sensitivity while still remaining truthful to the realities they reflected. Delorme did not sensationalise the trauma, but neither did she minimise it. Instead, the topics were approached with honesty and restraint, allowing the emotional weight of the story to come through in a respectful and deeply affecting way. The story was incredibly emotive, and I experienced a whole range of feelings while reading it. I found it very difficult to put down. Without giving any spoilers away, I particularly loved the concept of the people inside Sarah’s head. It was such an intriguing idea and worked brilliantly within the story, adding another layer to the narrative. Overall, this was a powerful and emotionally engaging novel about forbidden love, bravery and justice, but also about healing, grief and transformation. It blended paranormal romance with deeper emotional themes in a way that felt both original and thought-provoking. I finished the book feeling moved by Sarah’s journey and very curious to see where the story will go next. I am definitely looking forward to reading the next instalment in the series. .
