Reviews: Chasing Evil (2)
“Compelling read”
(Hardback)
Chasing Evil: Shocking Crimes, Supernatural Forces and an FBI Agent's Search for Hope and Justice is a compelling and gripping read from beginning to end.
The cases are fascinating and they read like a fiction novel.
The tenacity and determination of Robert Hilland is phenomenal and when he works in conjunction with John Edward a psychic and how they personally bond is just icing on the cake.
It totally changed my perspective on psychics.
The highlights of Robert Hilland's career and what he gave up as his career always came first is another gripping aspect of the book. Balance is everything he learns but we are all blessed with hind sight.
I highly recommend Chasing Evil but be warned you will want to binge read the book as its so hard to put down.

Chasing Evil: Shocking Crimes, Supernatural Forces, and an FBI Agent’s Search for Hope and Justice
by Robert Hilland; John Edward
I've been following true crime for decades but I was still surprised how almost all the cases and crimes mentioned in this book were cases I followed from the time they were made public until the present date. Hilland's relating of his part in the investigations brought the cases back to me so well, especially because he was able to add details of which I was unaware. What got to me the most was the missing little red headed boy, a case that opened the book and was mentioned in more depth toward the end of the book. What I knew before now is bolstered by the Hilland's relating to us how he was helped by John Edward in finding the little boy, details I didn't know before.
At the beginning of an over twenty five year working relationship between Robert Hilland (FBI agent) and John Edwards (psychic) Hilland was very skeptical of Edwards' claims and abilities but over their decades of working together, friendship, and eventually feeling like brothers, in many ways, there is no doubt what an important part that Edwards played in Hilland's career and in his way of seeing life (and death) over the years. The book is so interesting to me because of its focus on real life crimes of all types but also because we get to see the crimes through the eyes of someone who worked on them for decades. How can a person not be hardened by all they see and experience in this line of work? It seems to me that Edwards viewpoints on what and who is on the other side and how they may be helping (or hindering) the living, put everything in a different light. The bad things still happened but we are not alone in wanting the bad things discovered or solved.
Hilland takes us through his career and allows us to see times when Edwards was there even if they weren't in the same location. Via phone, Edwards was often able guide Hilland to what he needed to know. But also, these two were able to help each other personally over the years to deal with their own personal traumas and to help them let go of feelings that did them no good and were holding them back from accepting they they weren't just what others thought of them. I pretty much read this book straight through, with some much needed mini breaks here and there. I can't help getting lost in the study of past crimes and this book just laid things out there for me to soak up, so easy to do since I was an interested observer even before I knew this particular book existed.
