“Chasing Windmills”
(Paperback)
Two people, both trapped and both scared meet whilst riding the subway at night. The story follows them over the next few weeks as they decide what to do about their lives - how to get away from the people who bully and control them - and how to be together. This is a slow-moving story of young love, based on West Side Story and set first in New York and then the Mojave Desert. It's a beautifully simple story, but captivating, each chapter is narrated by first Sebastian and then Maria - their innocence and naivity are really heartbreaking at times. It's a really moving love story, and a story of being strong enough to let go.I really enjoyed this one, and although it's not a young adult novel, it did remind me of The Outsiders in it's writing style.
