Reviews: Cryptids (1)
“We all feel a little Mothman at times”
(Hardback)
by Big Bearded Bookseller
We’re getting a nice little collection of mythology, urban legends, and cryptid books for children at the bookshop at the moment and when I saw this was available to ask for I jumped at the chance. Especially since it was a DK book. This is a nice little book full of extremely bright illustrations all arranged around themes in the world of cryptids. There is nothing new here (for me) but this would be an extremely fun and informative introduction to this world for younger fans of the strange and supernatural. And unlike a previous book I read on cryptids where it only acknowledged western sightings as the first, this acknowledges the indigenous cultures sightings but then lists the first western sightings. We hop all over the world starting with Nessie (as it should be) and almost finishing with the Kraken, there are several pages talking about hoaxes and how nature can sometimes be stranger than fiction. A lovely quick read, lots to take in, brilliantly illustrated. A perfect gift for the child who leans toward the dark.
