If there's one thing that I like doing it's discovering new authors. Gracie Player is certainly a new author for me. I read the synopsis of 'Daisy Does It Herself' and it sounded so good that I knew I would have to read it as soon as I possibly could. I couldn't wait to dive in and so without further ado, I grabbed my Kindle, grabbed a cup of tea and settled down for a fun morning of reading. I absolutely loved reading 'Daisy Does It Herself' but more about that in a bit. I loved the character of Daisy and I warmed to her from the very start. In fact it didn't take me long to feel as though she had become a friend of mine and I felt all protective of her. When the story starts, Daisy seems to have the perfect life - she has a job that she loves and is good at and she is in, what she thinks, a loving relationship. Without going into too much detail, she has the rug well and truly pulled out from under her. It was at this point that I so wanted to jump inside the pages of the book to give her a hug and slap those who had upset her. Daisy is a canny young lass and I had no doubt that she would make a success of things. What happens? Well for the answer to that question and so much more you are just going to have to read the book for yourselves to find out as I am not going to tell you. Oh my word, this was one of those books that drew me in from the very start. To say that reading this book became addictive is a bit of an understatement. Part of the reason why I loved this story so much was down to the fact that Daisy was such a likeable young lass. Add in a bookshop and a goofy dog then you have the perfect story - well for me anyway. I had picked the book up only intending to read a chapter or two but I became so wrapped up in the story and in the lives of the different characters that I was still sat there reading several chapters and an hour later. This wasn't a particularly long book and so it seemed as though I raced through it. This story certainly made me laugh out loud on more than one occasion - the big goofy dog knocking Daisy over was one memorable moment. That specific incident reminded me so much of our Rhodesian Ridgeback who used to behave in exactly the same way as the dog in the book. All too quickly I reached the end of 'Daisy Does It Herself' and I had to say goodbye to Daisy. I found 'Daisy Does It Herself' to be a reasonably quick read with plenty of laughs and drama along the way. 'Daisy Does It Herself' is well written. Gracie has one of those easy going writing styles that reads more like a chat between friends rather than reading a book. I hope that makes sense. Gracie clearly cares about her characters and this shines through in the very vivid and realistic way in which she describes them. She makes her characters seem just as real as you and I. As I mentioned before, Daisy ended up feeling more like a friend than a character in a book. For me, the story hit the ground running and maintained a steady pace throughout. I love the way in which Gracie makes the reader feel as though they are part of the story and at the heart of the action. That's how I felt anyway. In short, I thoroughly enjoyed reading 'Daisy Does It Herself' and I would recommend it to other readers. I will certainly be reading more of Gracie's work in the future.
