Reviews: Darkness Falls (30)
“Another great page -turner”
(Hardback)
by Michellle De Alwis
Robert Bryndza has done it again with Darkness Falls third the book in the Kate Marshall series. I have followed his books from this series and the Erica Foster series and either one doesn’t disappoint. After leaving the Met Kate is now running a Private detective agency with colleague Tristan. They have just got their first major case. The disappearance of Journalist Joanna Duncan in twelve years ago. Who at the time was investigating a political scandal? The police were investigating her disappearance, but the case has now gone cold. But Joanna’s mother Bev always wondered what happened to her little girl. Kate has a head start in the case as Joanna’s mother Bev was giving the case files. So, she gave them to her to delve into. As she progresses, they find out that two other people have done missing. What did Joanna find out and what links them to her disappearance? Thank you, Little Brown, for a copy of Darkness Falls by Robert Bryndza. This is another great, thrilling mystery from the author. I always get excited about his books. This has a great storyline of Kate trying to prove herself that she has still got what it takes to solve a crime. Even putting one over the Police to do it. She is not afraid to get stuck in even cleaning toilets at a caravan park. Which I thought was quite funny. But at the same time, the story was gripping throughout. This is a very entertaining read. 5 stars from m
“Fantastic series”

This is the third book in the Kate Marshall series but can equally be read as a stand alone. Kate and her friend Tristan have set up their own private investigation agency but things are a bit on the slow side. After her best friend Mrya and AA sponsor passed away and leaving her the holiday caravan site at least she has something to do and the fact that her son is spending his summer holiday away from university with her is a bonus. When Kate receives a phone call from a woman about her journalist daughter Joanna Duncan that went missing twelve years previously and asking for help Kate couldn't resist. When Kate and Tristan look into the old case files things really dont add up. Joanna had outed a local politician for misusing Government money and was still looking into his background before her editor told her to drop the story. But Joanna carried on and the name of two young men came to light when Kate was investigating. What Kate unveils is an unknown serial killer! Can she catch him before he kills again?
“Fabulous series”
(Hardback)

I am delighted to have read the latest book in this series. Kate Marshall formed her own Detective Agency after quitting the police force. She still has a few contacts in the department that help on the quiet when she needs it. Working for Kate is Tristan, a keen young man that she can wholly rely upon. They have had some rather tricky cases so far, and the one they are about to take on is no exception. Twelve years ago, a bright newspaper reporter Joanna Duncan disappeared after work. Her car was found abandoned in the multi-storey car park she used daily. No sign had been seen of her since that day. In a last-ditch effort, her mum’s wealthy husband asks Kate if she will take on the case to find her, be it dead or alive. Joanna’s mum isn’t anything like what Kate had expected. She is brassy and loud but has a heart of gold. She wants to know where her daughter is. Money talks, as they say, and Joanna’s stepdad has acquired the files and investigation documents surrounding her disappearance. Kate and Tristan set to work on these, and soon discover something that had been previously missed. It is an unusual case for Kate and Tristan as the story takes on a detour. Robert Bryndza is on top form with his writing as he captures the essence of the characters in his story. The emptiness of Joanna’s mum, the ambitious detective after all the glory and the terrifying confidence of a killer. But the victims, oh my, that hit home. I had to stop just for a little while because it didn’t seem right just to carry on reading. The writer makes it all seem so real. The story twists in ways I hadn’t thought of. It was so easy to jump to conclusions. It is an awesome story. Wowed! I wish to thank the author for an e-copy of this book, which I have reviewed honestly.

“Great thriller”
(Hardback)
by Catherine Craig Angelic Light
This is a great fast paced thriller, which I loved, and I really enjoyed reading it. I love Robert's books, and I have read some of his other books too. This is book 3 in a series. The story is about Kate Marshall and her partner/friend Tristan, who are private investigators hired to help solve the cold case of Joanna Duncan who went missing 12 years before. Joanna was trying to expose a corrupt politician before she went missing. Could this be connected to her disappearance? Full of twists and turns, and drama, this book really hooked me in and kept me enthralled throughout. If you love thrillers or police procedurals, then you will love this book. Highly recommended!
