“Deadly Mistake”

This is the second in the Simon Peake series so, for full enjoyment wrt background and character development, I would recommend you read book one, Dead Reckoning, first. In this book, we catch up with Simon as he has relocated to a small rural town in Georgia. He is ticking along mostly nicely. Until, one night a car with three people in turns up to the farmhouse he is renting. He recognises one of them and, apparently it is he who has recommended to the other two that Simon is the man who can help with their dilemma. The have a body to get rid of... Things go south, which I will leave you to discover, but the main thing to come out of it all is that the "body" isn't a body at all. Well, she is a body but she isn't dead... And so begins another action packed romp which has Simon not knowing who to trust (again) or where to turn. It appears that there are layers, levels, of secrets, lies, cats, mice, and so much obfuscation that the author does incredible well to keep all the plates spinning all the way through, delivering shock after surprise until we race to a wholly satisfying conclusion. My only little niggle is that maybe, for me anyway, the action was a bit overwhelming at times. I don't mean the level of violence, although that is high, I mean that it overshadowed the story a bit too much for me. I almost forgot who was who and what was what and why we were fighting... But that said, it's a worthy addition to an already impressive back catalogue. Although, in my opinion, nothing will ever top his original Enemy series, beginning with Dance with the Enemy and featuring Carl Logan...
“This is a Violent and Gorey Read”
(Hardback)

Simon Peake Thrillers #2 A knock on the door in the middle of the night catches ex- Special Forces Simon Peake off guard. He only recognises one of the three men standing on the other side, and the "help" they need is to dispose of a dead body crumpled in the boot of the car. The problem is - the woman in the boot of the car isn't dead at all. In a matter of minutes, Peake makes a call to help and protect this stranger, but it's a decision that will drag him back into the dark and dangerous world of drug cartels, mob bosses, and rogue CIA operatives who will stop at nothing to use Peake as a Pawn in their games. The pace is fast in this dark and action-packed read. Peake is a ruthless character and has the ability to over-power his victims. This is a violent read so it won't suit the faint of heart. The tension builds throughout. There were a mixed bunch of characters. At times I had to stop reading for a minute because of all the gore, but I still enjoyed this book. Published 17th September 2025 I would like to thank #NetGalley #BoldwoodBooks and the author #RobSinclair for my ARC of #DeadlyMistake in exchange for an honest review.
