Reviews: Dear Lumpy (3)
“Hilarious depiction of fatherly love”
(Hardback)
Anyone who has read Dear Lupin will know what to expect from Roger Mortimer's letters to his younger daughter Louise - irreverent humour, sage advice, mock threats and insults, family anecdotes, stories of misbehaving but obviously much-loved pets and comments on the way the world seems to be going to hell in a handcart. The humour often seems heightened by the startling contrasts between the diverse subjects that can be covered in a single paragraph.
But ultimately this book is a tribute to family love that endures, despite the all-too-human flaws of its members.
“Still hilarious!”
(Hardback)
This was just as funny as Dear Lupin! Roger Mortimer's letters to his (slightly better behaved!) daughter are wonderfully funny, with all the wit and charm of his letters to his son. They are books that you will want to re-read over and over, and I will treasure my copies forever!!
“Wonderfully written letters”
(Paperback)
I read 'Dear Lupin' last year and enjoyed it so got 'Dear Lumpy' and it was just as entertaining and amusing to read.
If you enjoyed 'Dear Lupin' this book is just as good.
In one letter sent in the 1980's he remarked that if the country carries on like this, it will soon become bankrupt! Very prophetic!
