A beautiful collection of entertaining reminders of how special the NHS is. Like Kay's books, the stories are by turns funny, sad, powerful, shocking and inspirational but as a whole, they are a way to remember how privileged and lucky we are to have the NHS available to us and should compel us more than ever to protect the NHS now and in the future. Besides, surely it's worth having a copy if only to have a book where Malala, E L James and Louis Theroux share a space?

Firstly thank you to Adam for having the idea of this book, then contacting so many well known people to write a piece about what the NHS means to them. I read it in one day, often through tears. Not because it’s a sad book, but because it’s so lovely to read how loved our NHS is, and how appreciated the staff really are. If anything I hope the pandemic continues to make NHS workers feel how special they are. I believe several copies of Adam’s This Is Going To Hurt were sent to Secretaries of State for Health. I hope all the cabinet get and read this book, then give staff a pay rise because applause doesn’t pay the rent, or put food on the table. Long live Adam, the NHS and all the selfless dedicated staff, without whom the NHS would be nothing.
