Brilliant book

A much better plot than the previous book makes this one more satisfying to read. The writing is to his usual high standard as is the characterisation. Poole continues to be annoying but overall this is a great entry into the death in paradise series.

I was interested to read a Death in Paradise mystery out of curiosity. I had seen the TV series and enjoyed that, and I wanted to see if the show was true to the original books. To my surprise, and relief, the book Death Knocks Twice felt just like series one of the TV show, especially in its depiction of the professional relationship between Camille and her boss Richard. Everything in the novel, from setting to character are just as they appear in the TV show, only the plots are different. I was amazed to see how closely the casting related to the author's original characterizations. Dwayne and Fidel are both spot on, so too Selwyn Patterson. It is clear from the portrayal of the detectives and the setting, that the BBC has taken a lot of care over its TV adaptation. The novels are easy to read without being simplistic. I guess the style is similar to Richard Osman's but without his pedantic dotting of the i's and crossing of the T's, which I found quite irritating in Thursday Murder Club. I would Thorogood recommend this novel.
