Reviews: Derbyshire Dialect (1)
“Good but incomplete”
(Paperback)
What the author has put in there is good, informative and correct. The descriptions of well dressing, Ashbourne football et al are well written. I had expected rather more, especially South Derbyshire anecdotes, words and phrases. In an eventual reprint I'd like to see explanations of why Albert Village is known as Borrernok (I know why but many won't) or the rather more obvious Woodville (Box). The South Derbyshire tendence to transpose the "ay" and "ee" sounds as in 'e nailed on a bag o' neels n gorra neel in 'is nay.
