Reviews: Dr Faustus: A Text (6)
“It was a really good read”
(Paperback)
by Myra
I bought this for my OU studies. I don't generally like reading plays, but I really enjoyed this one!
“Surprising”
(Paperback)
by Carrowblagh
I havent read the other reviews but I suspect others are buying this as part of the OU module, and likee it's been a long time since I have read a reinassence play! And frankly not looking forward to it but to progress on to what I thought would be the more interesting part of the History degree. I now know why this play has stood the test of time it was fantastic and I really enjoyed it! The revelation that it was written, mostly in iambic pentameter was astonishing and the drama of the characters amazing I can't wait to see it on the stage! Highly recommend.
“For Study or For Pleasure”
(Paperback)
by KayK
Whether you require this book as a set text, a dramatic resource or simply as an interesting read I would highly recommend it. The layout allows easy and quick viewing of the text notes so you don't need to be flipping between meaty sections to find appendices and makes 16th Century English more readable. As for the play, I don't want to give too much away, but we have all heard of the man who sold his soul to the devil. Read it if only to encounter Mephistopheles, if he wasn't an agent of the devil, he'd make a great replacement for man's best friend.
“Pleasantly surprised”
(Paperback)
by Michelan1
This book was bought as part of my set texts for AA100 OU course. although a lover of more modern thetre thisd is the first pre1900 play I have read since school. Once i had heard a dramatised version ity fitted into place in an extemely enjoyable way.
“Much better than expected!”
(Paperback)
by Patricia Forbes
I was dreading having to read this as part of an OU course but it was much more entertaining that expected and I actually read it twice! Reading it along with a recording of the play makes it much easier but the notes in the book are very helpful.
