“Nice and nasty”
(Hardback)
by Irfan Umar at Canary Wharf
A nice and nasty little pot boiler crime novel set in 80's Soho that makes the area come alive and talk. Sometimes a bit longer than you might expect, but in the case of what I call "The Tart's Monologue" it's quite engrossing. Duffy is a great character, an oddly broken, streetwise ex-cop working security, and I'm very eager to read more of him. A dark skein of humour gives a subtle edge to a very real, sexual and full flavoured story. The ending comes quickly, capping a very nasty development. Like all the best books it left me wanting more.
