Reviews: Everyday Cryptography (1)
“Great textbook without heavy maths”
(Paperback)
We use this book in our MSc course. A pragmatic and vividly written book always deserves a praise.
When we talk about cryptography, hard maths always springs to mind. However, there are many aspects to applying cryptography that are non mathematical. This is not a mathematics-based cryptography book. This is a book about "everyday" cryptography that we encounter in our daily life and we don't need maths to use it.
The book focuses on the different types of cryptography techniques, the algorithms, digital signatures, certificates, usages and key management. It also touches on historical cryptography techniques, applications of cryptography (ATM cards, contactless payment cards, mobile SIM cards, smart IDs, online authentication, emails, hard disk storage etc)
The nice thing about the book is that contents are being delivered in a speaking-style, a far cry from "academic-style" writing; so it becomes a fun read. As a non-native English speaker, I could understand the information in the book better than if it had been written in "academic-style".
