Having read and loved Dissolution and, off the back of that added all this author's books to my tbr, it was obvious that I would snap up this book as soon as I saw it available! It's only a novella in size, sub 200 pages, but it sure does pack a punch. We start with a couple of cops arriving at the door of retired detective Julia Torgrimsen's door to, well, try and persuade her to come out of said retirement, and help them with the investigation of the murder of Bruno Donaldson who she previously worked undercover with. The assignment that basically forced her into her retirement. So, obviously, she tells them where to go. Until, that is, they also tell her that he has died twice. Two separate murders. Two bodies, identical, both shot... And so begins a rather nifty, intriguing and compelling tale, involving the elite, the rich, and containing a whole bunch of secrets and obfuscation. All centred around time travel and the abuse thereof. Which in and of itself, apart from the duplication stuff, wouldn't be so much of an issue would it not be for the fact that repeated jumps is bringing the end of times closer... It's fast paced and is over way too quick. I would have loved to have spent more time with the characters. But, that said, a book should only be as long as it needs to tell the story being told without the need to pad it out. And this length is a perfect fit. But that doesn't mean that the characters don't have more to give. I think they do and would love to catch up with them in a future book... please? Me, now, I'm off to read Ascension...

Having loved Ascension and Dissolution, I went into Extremity completely blind, armed only with the cover and the confidence that Nicholas Binge would deliver another mind-bending story. And he did. At first, I found myself questioning the genre. Was this going to be a straightforward police procedural? If so, I was okay with that, because the writing was sharp and immersive from the very first page. But then the narrative shifted gears, expanding into something much bigger, stranger, and exactly the kind of story that’s right up my alley. Told through multiple POVs, the book balances tension, mystery, and high-concept twists in a way that kept me hooked throughout. My only complaint is that, given the relatively short page count, I felt that I was left wanting more. I think it would have been even stronger if there had been more room to expand on the backstory and to explore the plot in greater depth. And while the audiobook is strong, this story really deserves a whole cast of narrators to match its multi-perspective structure. Overall, Extremity cements Binge as an author I’ll always pick up without hesitation. Highly recommended for fans of his previous work and readers of Blake Crouch who enjoy genre-blending thrillers that challenge expectations. 4.5star because I needed more backstory (maybe that's a little harsh!)

This was a have to sit down and read it all in one time! I absolutely loved it and was hooked the whole time as Julia, Mark, and somewhat reluctantly John (at least until he got shot and Julia fixed him up good! lol) raced to figure out who is killing head criminals and how there seems to be a clone of one of them, also killed. And that is only the tip of the iceberg! This novella is jammed packed full of action and great detective skills. And good thing Julia is willing to bend the rules (or downright ignore them) because the fate of the world is at risk thanks to the wealthy and criminals not thinking about consequences for their actions! I loved the twist of police procedural mixed with a truckload of sci-fi for a wild ride to save the world and bring justice and avoid being the convenient scapegoat for the easy solution of a complicated case. All three viewpoints gave depth to this story from the newbie of Mark, junior D.C. and totally unsure of anything but willing to go along with Julia on her strange errands for answer, Julia, ex cop but still in touch with the unsavory underworld, and weary John, trying to keep the former two from landing in too much trouble to get out of. It was a perfect novella that wraps things up (at least as much as can be with time travel!) and I loved every minute of it. I also wish I could dive back in and see what else Julia and the others can find.
