An absolutely brilliant book! Martin is cool, has great friends, he’s the undisputed leader of the gang of three and has a lovely girlfriend, Natalie. Then the unimaginable happens, Martin and one of his friends accept a lift home from a boy who used to attend their school, only to discover too late that the car is stolen and the driver is high on drugs. A high speed car chase ends in a crash which results in a fire. Martin's face is seriously burned, resulting in the need for skin grafts which still leave Martin disfigured. Martin’s future is changed along with his face, coming to terms with a change of perceived identity would be hard at any age, but for a teenager it’s almost unimaginably difficult. Martin’s road to the future is not easy but how he overcomes his initial problems and various setbacks is the subject of the book. As expected from such a brilliant poet Benjamin Zephaniah writes with empathy and style. Ben Bailey Smith narrates the text beautifully. This book is an unmissable event in coming of age fiction, if you don’t read or listen to it you are missing a real treat.

This was a powerful read, highlighting the subject of image and other people's reaction to disfigurement. It reminded me of Wonder by R. J. Palacio, another Young Adult book that I really enjoyed. Martin is a fortunate teenager; he has a crowd of mates and a stunning girlfriend. Unfortunately he makes one bad decision and ends up in hospital with serious facial burns. He has to come to terms with his new appearance, his parents' reaction to his injuries, and then his friends and the rest of the school. It's a lot to deal with and we travel with Martin on this journey of self discovery. This would be an excellent prompt for discussion about prejudices regarding appearance and our reaction to those less fortunate than ourselves. Like Refugee Boy that I also listened to recently, Face was brilliantly read by Ben Bailey Smith, who moves seamlessly in and out of a London accent. I shall certainly look out for other books with his narration.

This book is amazing... When i read it it was like I was there as it was happening, I would recommend this book to anyone as it is really interesting. When i looked at the cover i thought oh.. another dull book but as i got into it, it grew on me and I didn't expect it to do that... I have to say my favorite part of the book has to be the end where Martin figures out who his real friends actually are....

A Great book!Martin feels like hes at the peak of his life but everything changes when his face gets badly burnt in a car accident. With help from doctors and alan green he gets his life back on track but things change again when a group of ten year olds chase him around insulting him. To top that he then finds his girlfriend Natalie cheating on him. After those events he stays at home for days while his group of friends (The gang of three) split up and he misses out on practising for a gymnastics tournament. Again with help from alan green, he regains his confidence to do the tournament and discover who his true friends are? I'd definitely recommend this book to anyone for the authors ability to show how martin rises above it all. A great read with a great message!

This story was interesting and I would recommend this book to some of my friends mainly because this book can be good and bad and it depends on the readers way of thinking. Well the first bit was boring but when martin had an accident it becomes interesting because of his face so i didn't feel to put the book away and i really liked the moral.
