With 'Fine', Rhea Ewing joins Alison Bechdel, Meg-John Barker, and many more in queer non-fiction in using the graphic novel as a medium to explore ideas and talk about queerness. In this case, Ewing is focused on gender - what is it? What does it mean? And how do you know what yours is? Partly biographical and partly based on a series of interviews, Ewing shares with us a wide range of stances, opinions, and experiences as well as reflections on their personal journey. It's a fascinating book, well-worth the read, and I appreciate that Ewing doesn't try to give us any firm answers. Instead of solving a puzzle, the book opens up possibilities, giving the reader space to consider their own feelings about gender and what they might mean. It's a mind-expanding and thoughtful read, and I would highly recommend it to anyone curious! I received a copy of the book for free in exchange for an honest review.
