Perfect for anyone who wants to get into this dark period of Spanish history. Spanish history is often overlooked in the UK and Streeter outlines all of the important chapters of Franco’s life and rule. I’ll be recommending to anyone asking for something about contemporary Spanish history!

At 200 pages this is not an exhaustive study of Franco but a very gripping account of his momentous life. El Caudillo was the most important Spaniard of the 20th century and his extraordinary life took him from provincial Galicia via the sands of Morocco to seizing control of a nation for decades and outliving his dictator contemporaries to die in peace in the 1970s. Without any obvious charisma or warrior-king qualities beyond a ruthless intolerance of any opposition, Franco remains somewhat of an enigma, a man who accidentally or cannily played both the Allies and the Nazis so Spain kept out of World War Two and a brutal tyrant who asked for forgiveness at the end of his life. Michael Streeter has penned a compelling narrative and a refreshing new account of one of Europe's darkest but most intriguing figures. Thank you to Haus Publishing for the copy.

A very easily accessible account of Franco's life from start to finish in 15 page bursts. Highly recommend for anyone trying to get into this part of History.(This was recieved as a free item from a publisher but this has not affected my review)
