A very useful and interesting short introduction to Freud. Anthony Storr, is a very competent academic, however as far as I could find he has made one mistake in his interpretation of Freud's ideas behind Leonardo Da Vinci's "Deam". Mr Storr states that Freud's theory behind Leonardo's memory cannot be justified simply because of a mistranslation of Kite for Vulture, which Freud has used as proof for bringing meaning to Leonardo's memory. Mr Storr writes: "Whereas vultures can be shown to have mythological connection with the mother, kites cannot", this is simply not true, as Isis, who represents the figure for an ultimate mother in Egyptian mythology is often represented as a Kite in ancient art. This misconception by historian trying to disproof Freud's theories is not unique to Mr Storr, and it needs addressing.

As an introduction to Freud, I found this lacking, particularly having read Snowden's intro from the TY range. Large amounts are expected to be digested in small chapters, which is impossible in relation to Freud's complexity.Nevertheless, the included quotes and sources from Freud's actual writings were interesting, and Storr is completely impartial. It's...OK.
