“You don't shelve this book, you keep it in a lock box!”
(Hardback)
This book isn’t slightly off. It is full-blown, lid-bulging, hiss-when-you-open-it rot, and I LOVED IT.
It’s giving Trainspotting x Yellowface but sweatier, nastier, and way more interested in watching its characters absolutely ruin themselves for relevance.
Mallory is circling obscurity like a vulture who’s just realised she might be the carcass. Midlife. Writer’s block. Candy Crusher. Friends who would eat her alive if it got them a better dinner party story. Let’s not talk about ‘The Husband’.
Leo is an addict.
They have two things in common.
The are both mercenary, and both need a cash cow.
Mallory knows authenticity sells, and she’s going to go gay, go sad, go dark. She’s milking Leo for his story and manufacturing the rest.
This is sharp, snide, everything is sticky, and everyone is slightly unwell. Tea parties take on a whole new meaning, and I will not be elaborating. You don’t read this, you get dragged through it slightly dehydrated and morally compromised.
This is not a book you shelve; you keep it in a lockbox.
Evil, sweaty, incandescent. I am OBSESSED.
Five stars, no notes. slaaaay

“Captivatingly complex…”
(Hardback)
Great book. So different from what I expected from him in the beginning but as the story took a darker turn it seemed more familiar. As always his characters are relatable and well-rounded. You never get someone who is one or two-dimensional. I am always looking forward to what he will right next. He reminds me a little of Juno Dawson (who is another of my favourite writers). I would recommend this to those who like complex relationships.

“My favourite read of the year so far!”
(Hardback)
Shocking, biting, funny and addictively readable, Fruit Fly is the queer, fictional critique of A Little Life I’ve always been waiting for; my favourite read of 2026 so far!
“Adult Debut from Josh Silver”
(Hardback)
Thank you to the publishers for this early review copy.
This was on the BBC list I believe of what to read in 2026.
I was quite interested to see what Josh would write for an adult debut having loved his three teen / YA books.
Now I think this will be quite hard to write a review for without spoilers - but no spoilers will be found here from me.
Early on in the book I was a bit 'oh is this for me'?
But that feeling was very short lived and I became absolutely hooked into the plot.
I was so invested in the lives of Leo and Mal I felt I just needed to protect them and guide them.
Ronan however, he wasn't getting any love from me, he needed to be shown for what he was.
But he was so clever this wasn't going to be easy and would certainly require some team work to see what he was really up to.
I had so many ways in my head that this book could end, but Josh managed to select an ending I had not seen coming.
The question is now of course is he planning a follow up?
If he is then I will be needing a copy please.
Very happy to recommend to all fiction or crime readers!
These characters will stay with me for quite a while.
“Best book I’ll read all year”
(Hardback)
Punchy and propulsive, told with real grit and authenticity. I couldn’t put this book down, it reads like a thriller and tackles some really interesting themes while handling its characters with such care.I am sure I’ll not read a better book this year.
