Reviews: Gerald's Game (3)
“Excellent!”
(Paperback)
Jess and Gerald are indulging in a bit of bondage in their remote lakeside cabin (as you do), when Gerald suffers a heart attack and dies, leaving Jess handcuffed to the headboard and unable to escape. It's a fantastically written book - every tiny detail of Jess's attempt to escape becomes so important that it really heightens the tension and makes it a real page-turner. Be warned: as you'd expect from Stephen King, it does get pretty grim, but King writes really well from a female perspective and captures Jess's changing mental state accurately and sensitively, and it really made the book work. It was excellent.
“Don't be put off”
(Paperback)
This was a highly enjoyable book from King. His ability to write well for women still amazes me. A truly touching and heartbreaking book about a woman's struggle for survival and something more.
