Reviews: Ghost (5)
“Brilliant continuation!”
(Hardback)
I have been following the Marc Dane series from reading nomad and then exile. I have been gripped by the stories and once I start reading I am unable to put the books down! James swallow has not disappointed in this third book with an equally gripping storyline following Marc Dane trying to stop war from breaking out! I love these books and I really hope that there will be more of them to come! I loved the storyline of this book and the reappearance of characters from throughout the series including some from nomad who are back with another more gripping plot. These books are unputdownable and I just have to see them through until the end. If you enjoy spy/war/thrillers then this is a book you should definitely read
“Just sit back and watch as the chaos unfolds...”
(Hardback)
This accomplished action thriller has boundless energy and an enemy with an appetite for payback.
When the facts don’t add up and you’re chasing virtual opponents that will stop at nothing to achieve their objective, you discover some ‘Ghosts’ can walk through any wall that stands in their way.
Neutralising such a threat is no easy task, which presents numerous challenges for one of our good guys, Marc Dane; gifted veterans exploit technology and their triumphant schemes test his own priceless abilities to the max.
Dane’s an intriguing chap; an intellectual quick-thinker, mentally and physically skilled to adapt any situation. Thankfully he’s also likeable, as he doesn’t possess the annoying cockiness that usually accompanies strong character roles, like his. Personally I loved the scenes with Lucy and her kick-ass approach to just about everything, not just her profession.
‘Ghost’ has a real talent for unleashing a stealthy fury. Nothing is obvious and there’s everything to play for, right up to the last moment. There’s the occasional coding banter between hackers, but it’s not hammed or complex. It was easy to just sit back and watch as the chaos unfolds.
(I am grateful to have received a copy of this title from the publisher via their Readers First website, which I chose to voluntarily read and review.)
“Another strong entry into the series”
(Hardback)
Having read the first two entries into the Marc Dane series I was very excited for this book. I had high expectations for it and it has delivered.
Like the previous instalments ‘Ghost’ hits the ground running with auction packed chase through the streets of a Maltese town and the action never lets up from there.
Marc Dane is now settled in to his new life working for Rubicon and we now see him as a competent and confident field agent rather than the fish out of water he was in the last two books. We also see and learn more about his fellow agents which helps to make this the most engrossing book of the series yet.
The one criticism I do have of this book is the amount of grammar errors I noticed. I’ve seen at least 4 incidents of words missing from sentences or the wrong tense used along with several other basic errors that wouldn’t have got passed any English teacher. Zaffre publishers need to have a word with their editors and proof readers because I’ve never read a professionally written novel with so many errors in it!!
“Liked it!”
(Hardback)
This book is the third book in the series by this author and about the character Marc. I had enjoyed the other two books so was looking forward to this book. I love the cover as it is similar design to the other so it looks good as a series.
It is about an ex MI6 agent It is about the digital world and the dark net (the hidden part of the internet used for bad things and which intrigues me!).
The book moves between continents and has the characters working together. The M16 Agent and Lucy work together to stop the hackers.
I really enjoyed this story. The blurb didn’t do it as much for me as the others in the series but it wasn’t an issue when I stated reading.
I would recommend this author and this series.
“an intelligent action thriller”
(Hardback)
James Swallow spins an intricate tale full of action and thrills. I could barely keep up with his well-researched story packed full of both violence and technology. He builds a horribly possible high-stakes scenario with huge implications for future terrorism and provides us with quick-thinking and well-trained operatives, on both sides.
His characters are believable, though rare, types. His well-painted locations are wide-spread and often exotic. His pace is, quite frankly, frenetic. His plot is superbly woven. His explanations are coherent, timely and sufficiently plausible - but never boring. His range covers finance, business, technology, geography, weapons, hand-to-hand combat, computer hacking, physical security and information security.
If any of this attracts then I recommend you read this novel yourself. I realise there are two earlier books in the series but I haven't read them and so I'm confident you can enjoy Ghost as a stand-alone novel.
