When I saw that this book was being compared to Catch 22 I smiled and thought that's not possible. But having just read Goshawk Squadron I would suggest that it's as good if not better. It's probably much closer to what actually happened in World War One than Catch 22 was to World War Two. There are laugh out loud moments & some that you'd expect in say a Waugh book but there were also some very sad moments & some quite shocking matter of fact events. I think it probably takes a more honest and realistic view of what happened in World War One but I wasn't there so I don't know for sure. The best book I've read in ages.
