I loved loved loved this book—truly written specifically for me! I am always incredibly impressed by authors who do something completely different in their second book, and ML Rio has done just that. Something, again, incredible, but despite what I expected this won’t be an auto-recommend for any If We Were Villains fan from me. It does a lot of things that Villains does (better, even), especially complicated group dynamics and interesting and flawed characters. I will say that I think you’ll need a (however slight) interest in horror/thrillers to go in, as some scenes might be quite jarring otherwise (rat skull, anyone?). A masterpiece by my favourite author, and if you like the premise, absolutely please definitely preorder it now. If you are expecting another Villains—that’s very much not what this book is.

If we were villains got me back into reading and I've been waiting for another book from M L Rio since and this didn't disappoint! Never before have I read am entire book on its publication day and I loved the atmosphere, the twists and the ending has got me thinking so much! Love love loved it and M L Rio is still my favourite author of all time!
