“Guttural greatness!”

Rob Bidulph’s debut won a coveted prize, It delighted the ears, was a feast for the eyes. Success with Book One meant the pressure would ratchet: Can Book Two measure up? Will Grrrrr’s appeal match it? Meet Fred. He’s obsessed with his fine ‘Best Bear’ title. He works hard, but lost sight of things that are vital. And while he’s been honing his ‘Loudest Grrrrr’ din, He’s not seen that Boris just wants to fit in. Fred’s lucky you see, when he can’t find his growl Eugene is on hand (he’s a kind and wise owl). Who in turn has called on the helpful raccoon, Then binoculared fox… There’s a gang round him soon. A story of friendship – I won’t spoil the ending; It’s bold and it’s bright and its spine deserves bending. The rhyme is delightful, the message top drawer. So does Grrrrr measure up? Well, I like this book MORE!

My daughter and I both love this book! The narrative, which is both witty and imaginative, flows so well, making it a pleasure to read. The message of kindness and friendship winning the day is so warming - these characters have become very welcome role models for my daughter! The illustrations are really beautiful and detailed - we notice different things each time we read it. A very talented author, I massively recommend this book.

I have read this to my 3 yr old daughter & 7yr old son, Grandma loves it, we love it & you will too. Boris the bear moves to the wood & wants to win the Best Bear award. Fred bear has won it the past 3 years, but suddenly his Grrrrr is gone! An owl called Eugene & friends help Fred look for his Grrrrr, will they find it in time for the contest? My daughter loved counting the animals, bears & 'r's my son liked the story as it is hard to fit in when you are new somewhere (very empathic) and it is not always easy to find friends. The illustrations are wonderful the wording & rhyme round it up to a lovely classic that we will enjoy and pass on.

From the author who won the waterstones children's prize. All about a bear who has lost his grrrr. A great story about friendship and teamwork ad how everyone needs a friend and that winning isn't everything.
