Reviews: Hate (3)
“A very good buy”
(Paperback)
Alan Gibbons novel Hate is inspired by a true story. Hate is a fiction story. The attack on the character Rosie, is based on a real attack. Alan Gibbons came to write this story of Hate after meeting Sylvia Lancaster at a teachers conference. Sylvia told the audience how her daughter, Sophie and her partner Rob both died after a savage attack in Stubbylee Park, Bacup, Lancashire 24th August 2007
.Hate is a heartbreaking good story. Eve's sister, died after an unprovoked attack on her. With a dark gripping twist Anthony is the new boy who has moved from his previous home town to start a new life with his mum near Manchester road where Eve and her best friend live. A storm is brewing as Anthony is the new boy in Eves class. But Anthony is no stranger to Eve she knows he was there the night her sister Rosie was attacked. There is no escape for Anthony from Eve, she has suffered heartbreak and her family have had a lot to cope with their pain and anger that their daughter Rosie was taken away from them through a savage attack. Eve has a crazy plan in store for Anthony.
Although attacks are rare it does send chills down you when you hear about People of all ages and from all walks of life who are viciously attacked. You think times have changed, but some people are still so full of hate.
The novel Hate is a solid page turner. I recommend Hate by Alan Gibbons to all readers and book groups as there are some questions at the back of the book that can be discussed.
The book Hate is a story about love, loss, hate and we see a family sharing their experience of loss. There is forgiveness and standing up against prejudice and believing in who we are. A great novel not to be missed. Waterstone card holders can buy this book from waterstones and gain points . Review by ireadnovels.wordpress.com
“the best book I've read”
(Paperback)
when it came out, this book got nominated for an award in my area, a group of students from different schools got to vote for their favourite books out of a group for 8 or 10 books, I chose hate. Its an incredibly inspiring book about a real experience. It changed my opinions on myself as at the time I thought my self an unlikeable person due to being emo and it gave me confidence in myself, it also made me research the basis behind it and its still such an interesting story
“Could you Watch And Do Nothing?”
(Paperback)
This book was going to make me angry.
Where there is ignorance or mob mentality there will be hate and dictatorship. This is a very explicit look at what happened one evening when a couple were trying to get home but they dressed in a different way.
Six months on we follow Eve, still haunted by her sister but trying to get on with school.
Anthony is starting afresh after his mother has made a break for it from a bad boyfriend. New school new start.
But Eve recognizes his name, she knows what he did!
Her best friends' brother has just come out to his parents. He is in the debate team and as arguments get heated he comes out to the whole school.
There are some who support him, some who tease, but some are more testing and are not pleased when his quick remarks make them look stupid.
Will Anthony stand by or will he act? Will he do something that matters ?
The scenes in the hospital after the attack on Eve's sister is rather disturbing and if you are a little sensitive prepare yourself as once you read it it will be in your mind. Parents, this is an important book on Hate crimes and why they happen. It is a goo book to show your child that action speak louder and having the courage and resilience under peer pressure can and does make a difference to someone.
In an eventful
