Reviews: Hebrides (1)
“A splendid book.”
(Hardback)
There's quite an uniqueness about this book. It is far removed from being any kind of visitors' guide to an archipelago of islands, although I suspect Peter May has already done wonders for the tourist trade there.
This is a very personal account of the author's relationship with Lewis and Harris in particular and his inspiration for 'The Blackhouse', 'The Lewis Man' and 'The Chessmen' (other novels set on the islands have been published since 'Hebrides').
The photographs are stunning and are also a very personal selection from the photographer who shares a very similar love for the islands to Peter May.
Bleak and beautiful. An ancient land barely touched by the modern age. Every deserted or derelict building holds its secrets and makes a visit all the more enticing.
